Lettuce Success!

From Seed to Plate!  The HM Garden produced almost 40lbs of lettuce to feed our community at the Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon.  All the students planted their lettuce seeds in the ground in September and then harvested, measured and enjoyed their bountiful production.

Second Sunday

Our volunteer workday for November is this coming weekend!  Sunday Nov. 10, 1-3pm.  We need to clean out the rest of our beds for winter and cover with a nice layer of compost.  The kiddos will be going on a hunt for seeds to make a super cool seed bracelet.  Stop by anytime and look for us in the Children's working Veggie garden.  Snacks provided!

A little bit of frost is a fun way to talk about condensation and the water cycle.  It makes everything look magical and "crunchy" as one little one said.  Now, we can also see that our summer veggies left in the garden are all very droopy and ready to be pulled and replaced with a winter blanket.  Lessons about seasons, compost, and soil are all happening outdoors at HM :)

Welcome to our Garden

Welcome to Hollin Meadows Elementary School Garden!  We spend the school year planting, harvesting and using our garden to expand our learning to the outdoors.  I hope you find inspiration and joy in the posts that I place here!  There will be much more to come as I figure out how to make this a window into what is happening in our garden :)
